Types of Volunteer Roles

Auxiliary

Auxiliary officers are trained volunteers who support community safety through events, patrols, emergency response and outreach.

Pipes and Drums Band

The YRP Pipes and Drums Band is a volunteer group that represents YRP at parades, ceremonies, community events and official functions locally and internationally.

Police Community Advisory Council

The Police Community Advisory Council (PCAC) brings together community members and York Regional Police to promote dialogue, inclusivity and stronger relationships across York Region communities.

Special Event Volunteers

Special Event Volunteers support York Regional Police at community events through setup, registration, outreach and public engagement activities.

York Regional Police Community Chorus

The York Regional Police Community Chorus is a volunteer choir that performs at community events, ceremonies and charitable functions across York Region and beyond.

Youth Band

The York Regional Police Youth Band is a volunteer musical group for young performers that represents YRP at parades, ceremonies and community events across Ontario.

Venturers and Rovers

Venturers and Rovers is a youth scouting program that gives members hands-on volunteer experience, leadership development and insight into policing and community service.

Mascots

The York Regional Police mascots are three costumed characters—Bucky the Beaver, Morris the Moose, and Bobby the Bear—who attend community events to engage and connect with the public, especially children.

How to Apply

Identify a volunteer group

Review available opportunities and choose a volunteer role that matches your interests, availability and skills.

Submit an application and background form

Complete and submit the York Regional Police Volunteer and Background Form with accurate personal and contact information.

Complete an in-person interview

Attend an interview to discuss your interests, availability and suitability for the selected volunteer role.

Provide references

Submit references who can speak to your character, reliability and community involvement.

Background investigation and home visit

Participate in a background check and home visit to ensure eligibility and suitability for the program.

Sign an oath of confidentiality

Agree to maintain confidentiality and protect any sensitive information you may encounter as a volunteer.

Complete required training

Attend and successfully complete training to prepare you for your role and responsibilities.
