Last month, York Regional Police Superintendent Sarah Riddell travelled to New York City to represent the service at the 19th annual Human Rights Summit at the United Nations.

The annual summit is comprised of youth leaders, diplomats, government officials, educators, human rights advocates and representatives around the world.

In alignment with this year’s theme, Education for Peace, Superintendent Riddell shared about the Human Rights Classroom, located at the YRP Community Safety Village in Whitchurch-Stouffville.

The Human Rights Classroom was designed to ensure it captured the United Nation’s 17 sustainable development goals.

“Through education and commitment to forging important partnerships, YRP continues to build a community that is safe, secure and inclusive, where everyone feels they belong,” Superintendent Riddell told attendees at the summit. “A society where everyone feels they belong and wants to contribute is a society that has the capacity for peace making and peace keeping.”
