How to Keep Your Kids Safe Online
As kids head back to school York Regional Police is reminding parents of the very real dangers children face online.
Internet child exploitation happens every day, leading to devastating consequences and lasting negative impacts.
Often, the victims of these crimes feel shame, embarrassment and don’t want to tell their parents or guardians.
That’s why it’s critical to ensure good communication with your children about the dangers of the internet, to empower them with safety tips to protect themselves and to ensure they feel safe to tell you if something is wrong.
Here are some tips to help keep your kids safe on the internet:
- Talk Openly – Have regular, judgment-free conversations with your kids about what they’re doing online.
- Set Boundaries – Use parental controls and set screen time limits to guide safe use.
- Stay Involved – Know which applications your child is using and encourage them to come to you if something feels wrong.
If your child has fallen victim to internet child exploitation, please contact York Regional Police at 1-866-876-5423.
By working together, we can keep kids safe both in our community and virtually.
