Protect Your Home From Potential Theives
York Regional Police shares six practical steps to help prevent break and enter incidents, encouraging residents to improve home security, stay vigilant and work together with their community.
York Regional Police continues to work to prevent break and enters, particularly as daylight hours change and visibility decreases earlier in the day.
Residents are encouraged to take proactive steps to help protect their homes and support community safety.
Here are six steps to help protect your home from a break and enter:
- Use technology: Install security cameras and place indoor and outdoor lights on timers.
- Clean up the yard: Trim trees, shrubs and anything blocking views of entrances.
- Shut it down: Close, lock and secure all doors and windows.
- Don’t make it obvious: Store valuables in less predictable locations.
- Know your neighbours: Build relationships and ask neighbours to watch your home when you are away.
- Help us help you: Register your security cameras with the York Regional Police Security Camera Registry.
