Four Suspects Charged in Investigation into Violent Auto Theft Group
Investigators with the York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit (ACTU) have charged four suspects following an investigation into a violent auto theft group operating across York Region and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
In May 2026, ACTU began an investigation into a crime group connected to motor vehicle thefts across the GTA. Officers identified multiple suspects involved in stealing vehicles in York Region, the City of Toronto and in Peel Region, including incidents involving firearms and violence.
On May 26, 2026, the suspects unsuccessfully attempted to steal a vehicle in the area of Woodbine Avenue and Shields Court, in the City of Markham. With the assistance of the Air Support and Canine units, investigators were able to locate the suspects and follow them to an address in the area of Trevine Crescent and Westbrook Avenue, in the City of Brampton.
Three suspects were taken into custody, a loaded firearm was recovered and a quantity of controlled substances were seized.
On June 3, 2026, a fourth suspect was located and arrested in the area of Highway 50 and McEwan Drive, in the Town of Caledon.
Throughout the investigation, ACTU recovered three stolen vehicles with an approximate combined value of $400,000.
