Date: Tuesday, July 21, 2026
Time: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
We’re Hiring — Put People First in Policing
York Regional Police (YRP) is looking for the next generation of police constables. Keeping our communities safe takes a diverse team with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, skills and perspectives, all working toward a common goal.
YRP is hosting a PREP session. This is an opportunity for prospective applicants to test their fitness and see if they can achieve the minimum standard of 2 minutes and 37 seconds.
Overview
The Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police, or PREP, is designed to simulate the physical demands of an emergency police response.
Participants must complete a 100-metre circuit that includes:
- climbing a set of stairs four times
- scaling a 1.2-metre (four-foot) fence twice
- pulling themselves up to look over a two-metre (6.5-foot) fence twice
- crawling under a low barrier four times
- using the push/pull and arm restraint machines to simulate controlling and restraining a resisting offender
- dragging a 170-pound mannequin for 50 feet
Participants complete the circuit while wearing a four-kilogram (nine-pound) belt and a four-kilogram (nine-pound) vest.
After a 15-minute break, participants must complete the 20-metre shuttle run. This mandatory part of the police constable hiring process measures cardiovascular fitness. To meet the standard, participants must achieve at least Level 7.
Candidates who reach Level 7 or higher will be issued a Fast Pass certificate, valid for six months, which may be used to bypass the fitness component of the hiring process.
