Firearm and Drugs Seized During Traffic Stop in Markham
York Regional Police has seized a loaded firearm, a quantity of controlled substances and charged three suspects with multiple offences following a traffic stop in the City of Markham.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m., officers were conducting proactive patrol in the area of 14th Avenue and Beckenridge Drive. Officers initiated a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver determined that cannabis was being transported in contravention of the Cannabis Control Act.
As a result, officers searched the vehicle and its three occupants.
Officers located a loaded firearm, a quantity of illicit cannabis, a quantity of controlled substances believed to be oxycodone and cocaine and a quantity of cash.
All three suspects were taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Toronto. Investigators seized a quantity of controlled substances believed to be psilocybin and ketamine, as well as illicit cannabis.

At the time of the offence, Seliyan SURENTHIRAN was bound by firearms prohibition orders stemming from unrelated incidents.
