Update – Suspect Charged for Indecent Acts

Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a suspect in connection with a series of indecent acts in the City of Markham.

Between June 9, 2026, and August 14, 2026, officers responded to five separate incidents in which the same suspect approached women and exposed himself in the area of McCowan Road and Steeles Avenue.

On August 20, 2026, officers conducting proactive patrols in relation to these incidents located the suspect. He was arrested and charged.

Chong CHEN, 37, of Toronto, has been charged with six counts of Indecent Act, two counts of Criminal Harassment and one count of Prowl at Night.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incidents, witnessed suspicious activity, or has information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact York Regional Police.

Police are reminding members of the public to remain aware of their surroundings when walking alone at night and to call 9-1-1 immediately if they see anything suspicious or feel unsafe.
