Four Youths Charged Following Investigation into Vehicle Thefts

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have charged four youths and recovered seven stolen vehicles following an investigation into a series of residential break and enters to commit vehicle thefts across York Region and neighbouring jurisdictions.

The investigation, dubbed Project Howler, began after investigators became aware of dozens of incidents in which suspects entered homes to steal keys for luxury vehicles parked in driveways and garages.

Over several weeks, investigators identified a group of suspects linked to a network believed to be responsible for more than 50 break and enter incidents and vehicle thefts. In some occurrences, weapons, including firearms, were brandished during the thefts.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, investigators located the group of suspects travelling in a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Richmond Hill the previous day.

At approximately 11 p.m., the vehicle attended the area of Thorncliffe Park Drive and Overlea Boulevard in the City of Toronto. Officers conducted a takedown and, following a brief foot pursuit, three youths were arrested.

Investigators also recovered seven stolen vehicles.

On Friday, August 28, 2026, a fourth youth was charged in connection to these incidents. 

Investigators are continuing to review evidence related to the Project Howler incidents. Additional charges are anticipated, and the investigation is ongoing.
