Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses following a fatal hit and run collision in the City of Vaughan.

On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at approximately 2 p.m. officers responded to reports of an unresponsive adult found at the side of the road, near Pine Valley Drive and Major Mackenzie Drive. Officers located a deceased woman in a forested area.

The investigation determined that, on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the victim exited a bus at the northeast corner of Major Mackenzie Drive and Pine Valley Drive. She was walking northbound on Pine Valley Drive with a suitcase, on her way to work as a live-in caregiver, when she was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The victim has been identified as a 60-year-old woman from Richmond Hill.

The driver did not remain at the scene. Investigators believe the driver would have known they had struck someone or something. 

Police are reminding the public that anyone who assists a suspect by concealing, repairing or altering a vehicle in an effort to avoid detection may be committing a criminal offence and could face charges. This includes anyone who performs or arranges body work, paint work or mechanical repairs intended to conceal damage caused in this collision.

The driver is urged to seek legal advice and turn themself in.
