Record Check Reconsideration
What is record check reconsideration?
After receiving a police record check, an applicant may request a review of information disclosed within the check. This process applies to the reconsideration of non-conviction or discretionary information.
Requests must be submitted in writing within 45 days of the completion of the police record check. Requests are reviewed by the Officer-in-Charge, Information Services.
Who is this for?
This process is intended for individuals who have received a police record check and wish to request a review of the information disclosed.
It may apply where an applicant believes the information included is not relevant or should not have been released.
How to apply
Review your record check
Review the information disclosed in your police record check.
Prepare your request in writing
Requests must be submitted in writing and include details outlining why reconsideration is being requested.
Include supporting documentation
You may include any additional information or documentation to support your request.
Submit within the required timeframe
Requests must be submitted within 45 days of the completion of the police record check, unless circumstances prevented submission within that time.

Send your request to the Police Record Check Unit at the address provided.

How requests are assessed
York Regional Police will consider the following when reviewing a request:
- The date of the incident
- The age of the applicant at the time of the incident
- All available information, including Crown brief information
- Details of the incident, including any submissions provided by the applicant or others
Decision
Following review, the information may be confirmed or removed from the police record check.
