Review the request process for individuals, law firms and insurance companies before submitting your request.
York Regional Police provides copies of select police reports to individuals, law firms and insurance companies. Available report types include motor-vehicle collision reports, self-reporting accident reports, property damage reports, fraud reports, theft reports, and stolen or recovered vehicle reports.
Copies of other police documents must be requested through a formal Freedom of Information request made at York Regional Police headquarters in Aurora.

This service is intended for members of the public, law firms and insurance companies requesting copies of eligible police reports. Request requirements vary depending on who is making the request.

Choose the correct request method
Individuals and organizations follow different request processes. Review the section that applies to you before submitting your request.
Prepare the required information
Have the relevant details ready, including the report type and any available incident information. Law firms and insurance companies should also provide client information, the general occurrence number if available, the date and location of the incident, and the reporting officer’s name and badge number.

Types of Requests
Individuals
To request copies of a motor vehicle collision report, self-reporting accident report or general occurrence report (for proof of loss), please visit York Regional Police Headquarters.
Location: 47 Don Hillock Drive, Aurora
You’ll need to:
- Complete a Motor Vehicle Collision or General Occurrence Report Request form, which will be provided
- Bring one piece of valid photo ID
- Pay the required fee
Please note: Health cards and SIN cards are not accepted as identification.
Receiving a report on behalf of someone else
If you’re requesting a report for another person, the individual involved must:
- Complete the Motor Vehicle Collision or General Occurrence Report Request form
- Provide a copy of valid government-issued photo ID
The report will be sent directly to the person involved by mail or email.

Law firms and insurance companies
Start your request by email
Email inslawrequests@yrp.ca with the following details:
- Client’s information
- General occurrence number (if available)
- Date and location of the incident
- Reporting officer’s name and badge number
You’ll receive a link to complete the request online. Payment can be made by Visa or MasterCard.
If you’re unable to request by email
Send a written request by mail that includes:
- Client’s information
- General occurrence number (if available)
- Date and location of the incident
- Reporting officer’s name and badge number
- A valid email address
Include the full fee (including HST). Cheques must be made payable to York Regional Police.
Important information
- Fees apply to report requests.
- Individuals must provide valid photo identification. Health cards and SIN cards are not accepted.
- Law firms and insurance companies may be directed to complete an online application after their initial email is received.
- Other police documents must be requested through Freedom of Information.
