Session descriptions
Each visit includes multiple sessions designed to build practical safety knowledge through interactive learning.
Kindergarten
Students learn about community helpers, including police, fire, and paramedics, and how they keep people safe.
They are introduced to emergency preparedness, fire safety (including what to do if clothing catches fire), and basic health and safety concepts. Learning also reinforces respect for others and understanding differences.
Grade 1
Students learn when and how to call 9-1-1 and how to recognize emergency situations.
They explore common household and fire hazards, smoke alarms, and home escape planning. Water safety and injury prevention are introduced, along with concepts of fairness and inclusion.
Grade 2
Students develop pedestrian safety skills and learn to recognize road signs and safe behaviours.
They practice safety in the Village environment and build awareness of fire escape planning and emergency response. Basic first aid concepts and playground safety are introduced, as well as basic necessities for human survival and wants versus needs.
Grade 3
Students learn bicycle safety, including proper helmet use and safe road behaviour. (Bicycles are included, some with training wheels, but all students must bring a helmet.)
They build on fire safety knowledge and learn how to respond while waiting for emergency services. Environmental responsibility and personal decision-making are also explored.
Grade 4
Students examine bullying—including physical, verbal, emotional, and online—and learn strategies to respond safely.
They explore emergency preparedness and participate in scenario-based activities. Basic medical awareness and introductory CPR concepts are introduced, and awareness is raised about water scarcity and conservation.
Grade 5
Students focus on internet safety and responsible online behaviour, while also considering the impact of education and the importance of access to education.
They learn about emergency preparedness, including building emergency kits and planning for evacuations. Hands-on learning includes CPR awareness and use of defibrillators.
Grade 6
Students explore diversity, inclusion, and the impact of discrimination and hate.
They learn about safety and independence at home, as well as substance use awareness and emergency response concepts, including CPR and naloxone awareness.
