Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged two men and are appealing for additional victims following a taxi scam in the City of Vaughan.
On Friday, September 26, 2025 at 8:44 p.m., officers attended a commercial plaza in the area of Colossus Drive and Famous Avenue for a suspicious vehicle call. Officers learned the complainant was approached by a male he believed to be a youth. The male asked the complainant to speak to a taxi driver in a black Honda Civic on his behalf, claiming that the taxi driver would not accept the male’s payment. The male asked the complainant if he would pay for him by tapping his credit card on the point-of-sale machine. The complainant declined and left as he became suspicious.
The complainant obtained the licence plate and officers determined the licence plate to be stolen.
The vehicle was located a short time later at another commercial plaza in the area of Applewood Crescent and Portage Parkway. The vehicle was then followed to a commercial plaza in the Islington Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard area in Toronto.
While there, the same driver and male passenger were seen attempting to defraud another victim when the police took them into custody.
Investigators learned the driver would swap the victim’s payment card with a stolen payment card from another victim. The suspects would then withdraw funds from banks before the victim realized what occurred.

- Osaze EBAGUA, 19, of City of Brampton
