Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a youth after a man was shot in the City of Markham.
On Thursday, August 14, 2025, at approximately 5:20 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of McCowan Road and 14th Avenue. When officers arrived, they located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injures.
On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the suspect was taken into custody by investigators.
Charged: - A 12-year-old male, of the City of Toronto

- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Fail to Comply with Release Order x2

At the time of the incident the 12-year-old was on release orders for unrelated violent offences.
“Once again, we're seeing individuals released on bail involved in serious crimes within our community,” states Police Chief Jim MacSween. “We must advocate for legislative measures which ensure violent and repeat offenders are kept off the streets, while also focusing on rehabilitating our youth, to ensure public safety, to protect our officers and to maintain public confidence."
