Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged seven people in relation to drug trafficking and firearm offences as a result of Project Short Changed.
The investigation began in February 2025, when it was reported that an individual was involved in the trafficking of controlled substances in the City of Markham. Through investigation, other associates were identified as being connected to drug trafficking in York Region.
As a result, investigators executed eight search warrants, charged seven suspects and have laid 46 charges. Police seized a large quantity of controlled substances including cocaine, methamphetamine, Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), ketamine, alprazolam, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and cannabis. Officers also seized more than $300,000 in cash and a firearm with ammunition.
