Under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, individuals may request access to records maintained by York Regional Police.
Records may be released in full or in part, or withheld, in accordance with applicable legislation to protect the privacy of others.
Who is this for?
Freedom of Information requests can be made by:
- Members of the public
- Media representatives
- Legal representatives acting on behalf of clients
When to apply for an FOI request
You may request access to records maintained by York Regional Police, including:
- Police reports (excluding motor vehicle collision and proof of loss reports)
- Administrative records and policies
- Other records maintained by the police
When not to apply
Some requests should be submitted through other services.

How to submit a request
Online (recommended)
Submitting your request online is the fastest method.
- Pay the $5 legislated application fee using Visa or MasterCard
- Responses are provided through a secure download link
By mail
Complete the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act request form and include:
- A photocopy of one piece of government-issued photo identification
- The $5 application fee by cheque or money order payable to York Regional Police
