Update – One Man Charged, Two Suspects Sought in Markham Carjacking
Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have charged one man and are seeking two additional suspects following a carjacking which occurred in the City of Markham in March 2026.
On March 3, 2026, at 11:43 p.m., officers responded to reports of a carjacking at Warden Avenue and Highway 407. The victim was stopped at an intersection when the suspect vehicle struck the victim’s vehicle from behind. When the victim exited to assess the damage, he was assaulted by two suspects. The two suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle, with a third suspect operating the suspect vehicle, described as a white sedan.
The victim sustained minor injuries.
The following day, the victim’s vehicle was recovered in the area of Matheson Boulevard East and Orbitor Drive in the City of Mississauga.
Through investigative efforts, one suspect was identified as Waheed RAHMATI, 22, of no fixed address.
He was charged on June 4, 2026, with Robbery, Disguise with Intent and two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.
When he was charged, RAHMATI was already in custody for unrelated offences.
The two additional suspects were seen wearing dark face coverings and dark clothing at the time of the offence.
The investigation is ongoing.
