Suspect Charged for Shooting in East Gwillimbury

Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a suspect after a man was shot in the Town of East Gwillimbury. Thanks to the swift and coordinated response by officers, the suspect was identified, located, and safely taken into custody within an hour of the incident.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at approximately 8:40 a.m., police responded to a residence in the area of Balsdon Hollow and Petal Avenue for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived to find one male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The suspect fled the scene in a grey Honda Civic that had been reported stolen from the City of Toronto on June 16, 2025.

Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and, with support from the Air Support Unit, tracked it to the area of Sentinel Road and Finch Avenue West, in Toronto.

By approximately 9:30 a.m., less than an hour after the shooting, officers, with assistance from the Emergency Response Unit, safely arrested the suspect and recovered a firearm.

Charges:

  • Attempt Murder with Firearm
  • Discharge Firearm with Intent
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Breach of Probation x2
  • Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order

At the time of the offence MOHAMED was on probation and a firearms prohibition order for unrelated offences.
